Meet the Krewe

Since the Trufant Family comes from New Orleans, we have a KREWE instead of a “staff” or a “team”. (A krewe is a group of fun-loving people who ride together in a Mardi Gras parade.)

	44 YEARS! BILL TRUFANT Date of Hire: 10/13/1981 Home Department: Buyer and co-owner. He usually works in the back office; however, you couldn’t keep him off the sales floor if you tried! He knows every department, but most would agree Saltwater is his homeland. Bill is also on the Board of Directors of the World Pet Association, America’s oldest pet industry trade association.
	34 YEARS! SALLY ADAMS TRUFANT Date of Hire: 02/18/1991 Home Department: General Manager and co-owner. In charge of hiring, firing, training, merchandising, marketing and all promotional events (I’m sure I’m leaving something out) Also trained in: Dog & Cat, Small Animals, and Register

Mary not only handles anything to do with money (paying invoices, payroll, balancing the bank statement, etc) but she’s funny and knowledgeable out on the sales floor. 	IN LOVING MEMORY CILL Date of Hire: 01/28/94 Home Department(s): Freshwater, Saltwater, and Aquatic Supplies In April 2024, B&B Pet Stop lost – and the Universe gained- a very bright and shining star. Cill Malik passed away from a variety of health issues, many of which she kept private so that her friends and even some family members wouldn’t worry about her; which is just so CILL. Cill joined the B&B Pet Stop Krewe THIRTY YEARS ago as a salesperson in the freshwater department. Her happy, fun-loving, energetic personality – along with an extraordinary knowledge of fish – propelled her up our ranks over the years to Freshwater Supervisor for many years and Saltwater Supervisor for many more years. She helped thousands of you set up freshwater and saltwater aquariums. She tested your water and helped thousands of you troubleshoot any issues you may have had in your tank. She was a mamma-bear mentor to hundreds of young and eager newly hired B&B Pet Stop employees- whether they worked in aquatics or not. Though she stepped back and worked fewer and fewer shifts as she privately dealt with her declining health, the loss of Cill as a member of our Krewe is keenly felt. Cill raised a strong, loving son who cared for her and literally doted on her these last few years. Side note – we know Joey well – he worked in our stock room for several years as a young man! Of course all of us here have more nutty memories of Cill than there is space to share – but I remember about 25 years ago after a particularly challenging Stock Supervisor situation, I was joking with Cill that what I needed was a retired military guy who wanted to work part time and whip this stock Krewe into shape – and in true Cill fashion, she says, That sounds like my Uncle Jimmy! Within a week Cill’s uncle, Big Jim Pate, joined the Krewe as a larger-than-life pirate of a Stock Supervisor and stayed 16 years! This is so Cill! She was an enthusiastic problem-solver and so beautifully loyal to us, the Trufant family, and her entire B&B Pet Stop family. We will never be the same. Cill – you were a tiny, slim, spitfire – but you left behind enormous shoes to fill. I picture you in a wide-brimmed hat – swimming in a beautiful pool – chatting with your hundreds of friends all over the country. You are MISSED.
